Note Taking Pays Off: Top College Students Rewarded at GradeGuru.com

McGraw-Hill offers incentives to students taking quality notes and helping their peers with the launch of notes-sharing site

New York, NY (April 14, 2009) – McGraw-Hill Higher Education unveiled its latest innovation in student study today with the official launch of its new notes-sharing site for college students, www.GradeGuru.com.

GradeGuru is a collaborative learning platform that allows college students to upload study materials and class notes to receive peer feedback, recognition and rewards including cash, gift cards and internship opportunities. Notes can be downloaded for free by students seeking guidance on study skills or alternative perspectives on their coursework in a peer-to-peer environment. Features to the site that optimize the notes-sharing process include a refined search function and a simplified uploading process, which allows contributors to post multiple sets of notes simultaneously.

“GradeGuru is essentially the Web 2.0 version of a study group,” said Emily Sawtell, Director of New Business Ventures at McGraw-Hill and founder of GradeGuru. “We have long been committed to helping students succeed in ways that they find engaging. By researching student study behaviors, we found that many students are already engaging in peer collaboration. GradeGuru is making that student-driven network more accessible by bringing it online; it is truly a site for students by students.”

The academic community is quickly catching on to the benefits GradeGuru offers. “GradeGuru has greatly improved my study habits and the incentive is a great motivator for keeping up with class,” said Mrugesh Patel, a student at the University of Michigan. GradeGuru motivates students to develop their study and note-taking skills, rewarding and acknowledging the best note-takers for their academic thought leadership and commitment to peer collaboration. “Note sharing creates critical bonds between students and allows them to build on each other’s strengths. GradeGuru is an incredible resource that allows students to learn from one another,” said Noelle M. Stout, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at New York University.

Students receive payment for their notes based on the quality and popularity of the uploaded material, as determined by peer review. In addition to having paid over $20,000 to students from Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Duke and other top schools across the country, GradeGuru is awarding the top student contributor this semester with a scholarship of $1,500 in recognition of their hard work and contribution.

GradeGuru recently partnered with TurnItIn.com, the leading plagiarism prevention service used by academic institutions, to deliver on its promise of ethical collaboration. As a result, if students submit unoriginal materials to GradeGuru as their own for a course that uses TurnItIn, that material will be flagged and banned from the site to ensure that GradeGuru is used as intended and without compromising the ethical integrity of the site.

Entrepreneur Magazine’s College Entrepreneur of 2009 Contest for Undergraduates presented by The UPS Store®

College-top

NOT YOUR FATHER’S BUSINESS PLAN CONTEST
Entrepreneur Magazine’s College Entrepreneur of 2009
Contest for Undergraduates
presented by The UPS Store
®

(Irvine, CA) April 8, 2009 – Maybe you’ve seen how ‘secure’ corporate America is, maybe you’ve wanted to do things your way, since you were like five – or maybe you just can’t stand the idea of working for the man knowing you’ll make a bigger difference in the world as your own boss. Whatever your motivation, entering this contest is a no-brainer when it comes to getting you closer to what you want.

It ultimately comes down to that big idea you’ve been batting around. All you need to do is tell us your inspiration for it, what makes it viable and different from the millions of ideas already out there, and where you see it going. In return we’ll show the winner $2,500 in seed money – and more importantly, thousands of dollars worth of publicity that money can’t buy.

“Some of today’s biggest business ideas are coming from college students, but with today’s economic woes, getting started may seem next to impossible,” says Amy Cosper, VP/editor in chief at Entrepreneur. “So we’re offering a chance of a lifetime to an undergraduate – and I emphasize undergraduate – because there are hundreds of business plan competitions out there for B-school students but very few are exclusively designed for undergraduates.”

“In its 31 years, Entrepreneur has literally helped hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses,” says Cosper. “We’re the authority. Any savvy entrepreneur – whether they’re 10, 20, 30 or 40 – knows that being featured in the magazine is like winning the lotto in terms of getting the national exposure needed to take their business to the next level.”

To enter the contest, submit your online form and video now at www.entrepreneur.com/e2009college, where you’ll also be able to watch a video message from Amy on how to win. Entrants must be undergraduate students between the ages of 18 and 25.

An expert panel of judges, including representatives from Entrepreneur’s editorial department and Mail Boxes Etc., Inc. (MBE, franchisor of The UPS Store), will choose the finalists. The panel’s decision will be based on the mission statement for the business idea, the proposed structure of the business idea, and the goals for the first and third years of the business.

“College students embody the true entrepreneurial spirit,” says Stuart Mathis, president of MBE. “We’d like to give them a chance to make their ideas real with the College Entrepreneur of 2009 search.”

$2,500, Publicity Money Can’t Buy, and Even More Cool Prizes

In addition to the start-up capital for the College Entrepreneur of 2009, the winner will also be profiled in the January 2010 issue of Entrepreneur magazine and be honored at an awards luncheon and ceremony in Miami, Fla. The winner will also receive two roundtrip tickets within the continental U.S., a gift certificate for $500 in free services at The UPS Store, a three-year subscription to Entrepreneur magazine and a selection of Entrepreneur Press books.

Entry criteria and the complete rules can be found on www.entrepreneur.com/e2009college. The deadline to enter is June 15.

Denim Against Domestic Abuse!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

http://www.TheDesignerJeanCompany.com

Scottsdale, AZ – April 14, 2009 — The Designer Jean Company (DJC) is hosting a 2-day launch party during which a portion of all proceeds will benefit women’s shelters.  On Friday, April 17th and Saturday, April 18th, DJC will offer the first 100 pairs of designer jeans sold at 25% off their already ridiculous prices during the first-ever Fashion Happy Hour!  This means that from 5:00pm – 6:00pm PST each night during this launch event, those able to be online at thedesignerjeancompany.com will have access to brands like True Religion, Joes, James, Red Engine, Paper Denim, Antik, Taverniti, J Brand, Chip and Pepper, Elvis and more for as low as $58!  25% off prices that are already 40-70% below retail will make the Fashion Happy Hour prices some of the lowest available ever for authentic designer jeans.  And for each pair of jeans sold, The Designer Jean Company will donate directly to the Chrysalis Women’s Shelter of Phoenix.

It isn’t new news that self-confidence and self-esteem improve when we feel great about how we look.   The Designer Jean Company intends to make the hottest designer jeans more accessible to the masses.  The goal of the 2-day launch party, however, is to prove that designer jeans can help women in more ways than are visible in a mirror.   By making a significant donation during the launch to local women’s shelters, DJC will be working to help those women most negatively impacted by the current economic times.  Denim against domestic abuse!!

These launch prices will be available ONLY during the Happy Hour, and ONLY during the weekend of the Launch Party.  Customers simply need to type the code “happyhour” into the Redeem A Coupon field provided during checkout between 5 and 6 pm PST.

The Designer Jean Company offers authentic designer brand name jeans everyday at 40 to 70% below retail.  These jeans are acquired from the manufacturers and offered directly to the consumer without layers of middlemen, stocking fees, retail store overhead and commissions.   The company’s mission is to serve women – both by bringing the tremendous benefits of designer jeans to a much broader market by selling these top-end fashions at a fraction of the retail price, and by contributing to the betterment of the women who need it most by donating a portion of proceeds to women’s shelters.

With the volume of sales expected during the Launch Party, particularly during the Fashion Happy Hour, those serious about getting exactly what they want should get on DJC’s VIP List which will provide email alerts and early access to inventory and special offers.  New inventory is added constantly and with the Authenticity Guarantee and Return Policy offered, DJC customers can get their designer jean fix at ridiculous prices with no risk.  With prices averaging under $100 for authentic, designer brand name jeans, this online retailer is looking to add significantly to the ranks of women wearing designer jeans and feeling their absolute best.

About The Company:

The Designer Jean Company is a Scottsdale, Arizona based e-commerce site and fashion resource, offering authentic brand name jeans at ridiculous prices. The company carries designer brands in all styles, all for 40 to 70% off retail prices.
